The Association of Construction and Housing Professionals of Quebec (APCHQ) is endorsing the plan for a catalog of pre-approved housing that aims to address Quebec's housing shortage by 2030.

“We view any measure that makes it possible to accelerate housing construction positive,” says Vice President of Strategic Development, Public Affairs and Innovation Isabelle Demers.
“It is essential and necessary. If you don't have a home, it is very difficult to contribute and be a full citizen. We should all be concerned about being able to build and house people.”
With this federal program, entrepreneurs could shorten deadlines, especially for obtaining building permits or bank permits.
The Vice President is curious about the 2024 version of the pre-approved housing catalog.
“We don’t know if it can meet everyone’s needs,” explains Ms. Demers. We can be sure that it will not resemble the 1940 model when we each developed a single-family home.
“We must hope that there will be several different models to respond to the reality of households in Quebec, which do not all have the same needs. If we have cookie molds, it can’t be the same cookie.”

Not enough
According to analysis, the federal government hopes to reach the milestone of 600,000 housing units built in Quebec by 2030.
“We will have reached half of our goal of filling 1.2 million housing units,” emphasizes Ms. Demers. It is a crisis in Quebec, but also in Canada. These are stratospheric numbers.”
“It won't be enough, but it will be a lot more than what we're doing now.” We only have 40,000 housing starts in Quebec. The lowest rate we’ve ever seen.”
