Apple chose the day before the start of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the largest trade show for new technologies, to announce the official launch date of its highly anticipated Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset: February 2nd in the United States Conditions.
The news has been long-awaited by fans of the Apple giant and the Metaverse, that concept of a dematerialized parallel universe that could breathe new life into Apple's headset.
The iPhone maker announced the Apple Vision Pro in June to take on the meta-dominated augmented reality headset market with its Quest devices, whose latest model, the 3, was launched in October 2023.
Key Features
The base model of the Apple headset has 256GB of RAM, a 4K quality screen for each eye and is equipped with the Apple giant's M2 and R1 chips. The device works without a controller because it detects eye movements and tracks the position of the head and hands.
One of its main features is that it switches between virtual reality and augmented reality using a wheel. According to the company, the headset is compatible with most software from the App Store and the built-in FaceTime, Photos and Movies apps.
Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Its revolutionary and magical interface will redefine the way we connect, create and explore.
Inside the case there are convenience accessories to improve light tightness, a USB-C charging cable and pad, a polishing cloth, a battery and a cover.
Recall that in 2017, Apple acquired the young Quebec company Vrvana for tens of millions of Canadian dollars to use its technology in its headset.
Pre-orders for the Apple Vision Pro open in the US on January 19th, with shipping beginning on February 2nd. The device is estimated to cost $3,500 (approximately $4,685 CAD).
The apple giant has not provided any information on a possible release date in Canada. The company contacted by Radio-Canada did not immediately respond.
