Argentine President Alberto Fernández travels to Brazil on January 1 to attend the inauguration of Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, who defeated incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro in the second round of the presidential election in October.
According to Argentina’s state-run Telam news agency, Fernández will return to Buenos Aires the same day after attending the event, where he was able to be accompanied by Argentina’s Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero.
The Argentine President and his entourage are received in Brasilia by Argentina’s Ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli. At the moment it is not confirmed that he is traveling with former Uruguayan President José Mujica, who was invited by Fernández to take the same flight.
The Argentine President traveled to Sao Paulo (southeast) on October 31 to personally congratulate Lula da Silva on his victory, a trip during which he stressed the left leader’s ability to “reunite the continent”. .
