The armed forces will send a report on ballot boxes to Brazil’s electoral judiciary

“The Ministry of Defense informs that on November 9, Wednesday, the report on the inspection work of the electronic voting system carried out by the team of military technicians of the Armed Forces will be submitted to the Supreme Electoral Court,” the ministry indicates in a statement. Release.

Facing questions from then-President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) and his supporters about the integrity of the electoral process, the military promised to conduct an audit of the campaigns.

This military force was invited by the former head of the TSE, Luís Roberto Barroso, to join the Electoral Transparency Commission created in September 2021.

In addition to members of the armed forces, the TSE also invited to the occasion private non-profit organizations committed to the supervision and transparency of public administration and information technology departments of universities, provided they were accredited by the court.

The organizations called upon were able to act in all phases of the deliberations, from voting to determining the results.

These bodies were authorized to accompany and supervise various phases of development, improvement and implementation of the computer programs that make up the system for collecting, processing and summing votes.

The TSE also expanded the number of entities that could monitor election campaigns.

The consultation saw a record number of eligible voters in Brazil.

According to the court, in 2022, 156 million 454 thousand 11 Brazilians were able to exercise their right to vote.

In addition, the South American giant recorded the highest number of women able to take part in the referendum.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, then candidate of the Workers’ Party (PT), received 50.90 percent of the vote in the second round (October 30, 2022) and Bolsonaro, who sought re-election, received 49.10.

Both contested the runoff election because they did not receive an absolute majority of votes in the first procedure on October 2nd. This means that more than half of the valid ones (excluding spaces and zeros) must be chosen in accordance with national legislation.

In his speech after his election victory, Lula said he was returning to power for the third time “to govern in a very difficult situation.” But I am confident that with the help of the people we will find a way out so that this country can live democratically and harmoniously again.”
