Barbie has become one of the most famous dolls in the world. Created by Mattel on March 9, 1959, it has long been the dream of many girls. Originally based on the German doll Bild Lilli, she was created by Ruth Handler.

Over the years, the toy received several accessories, such as clothes, cars, purses and even a house. All of this led to Mattel selling billions of dolls, resulting in the company’s most profitable line. Not only was Barbie in the world of toys, she also won films and animated series, a clothing line, video games and various other types of products.

It all started when businesswoman Ruth Handler and her husband Elliot Handler watched their daughter Bárbara play with her dolls in the 1950s. They noted that she had a habit of changing clothes, doing her hair, and posing as an adult. Until then, toys of this type only represented children.

It was then that Ruth had the brilliant idea of creating a Barbie doll with a more adult look. After a trip to Europe, the businesswoman met the Bild Lilli doll. Ruth then remarked that her proportions were perfect for creating her model. She bought three dolls and used them as the basis for creating one of the most famous dolls in the world.
