The A's could stay in Oakland…temporarily

The Oakland Athletics met with Oakland city and Alameda County officials to discuss extending their lease at the Coliseum.

The daily newspaper “San Francisco Chronicle” learned this on Tuesday.

It is known that the A's owner intends to move his team to Las Vegas for the 2028 season. The team has a lease at the Oakland Coliseum through the end of the 2024 season.

Athletics must therefore find a temporary home until their new stadium in “Sin City” is ready. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the A's staff has already visited stadiums in Sacramento and Salt Lake City.

By remaining in the Coliseum, the athletics teams would remain in their market and continue to receive checks from regional sports networks. This represents a key argument. The A's earned $67 million last year as part of their agreement with broadcaster NBC Sports California.

The organization must decide whether to stay in Oakland or move to a temporary home before July, when the league releases the schedule for the following season.
