SANTO DOMINGO.- Accelerated and despite the rain, brigades of workers are advancing against the clock to erect pavilions for the International Book Fair, which will be inaugurated by President Luis Abinader this Friday.
With activities aimed at promoting literary entrepreneurship, promoting creativity and preserving the environment, the twenty-fourth edition of the Santo Domingo Book Fair 2022 will be held.
The fair is dedicated to Dominican writers Carmen Natalia and Pedro Peix and has the European Union as a special guest.
Under the motto “Come to the book”, the producer of the fair, Rey Andújar, emphasized that this year’s innovations include an inclusive pavilion and only recyclable materials are used.
The exhibition, which has not been held for two years due to the pandemic, has raised expectations and enthusiasm among retailers about a possible recovery in the book trade.
Authorities said parking spaces will be available at Plaza de la Cultura and Palacio de Bellas Artes and that users using them will be taken to the Colonial Zone by buses from OMSA free of charge.
The streets that will remain closed during the fair are Las Damas and Isabel la Católica streets, from their intersection with Padre Billini street to the corner with Las Mercedes street.
The fair is open to the general public from Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
