The Auberge du Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire: a multi-style destination

SAINT-ALEXIS-DES-MONTS | Some outfitters are exceptional. This is the case of the Auberge du Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire, which offers anglers four species of fish to tackle during the same stay.

Halfway between Quebec and Montreal, this outfitter has something for every angler.

“The fisherman who comes to us can take advantage of a room in an inn, a condominium or a chalet fully equipped for a European stay,” explains operations manager Philippe Tousignant. We have created this diverse offering to meet the expectations of all anglers who visit us.”

“We also receive a lot of people from outside Quebec who need a different reception infrastructure than Quebec fishermen, who are often very well organized.”

The dining room of the inn offers an excellent table. If you opt for the Europe package in one of the chalets, there is nothing stopping you from being spoiled with a meal at the inn during your stay.

Nice change

The variety of species to be fished is present.

On the outfitter’s territory there are about ten regularly fished lakes where you can catch brown trout or rainbow trout.

No special techniques or extraordinary baits are required. A good spinning rod with lures like the small blue 2.5 inch Toronto wobbler, the orange Amazing Spoon or even a blue and silver Lake Clear to which you add an 18 inch hooklink and a nice earthworm will give excellent results.

You can reap beautiful catches of 10 to 14 inches for the speckled fish and catches of up to 16 inches for the rainbow fish. You may experience nice surprises. The limit is 10 trout, whether speckled or rainbow colored.

At Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire, from June 1st, it will be possible to compete with gray trout, specimens of which can weigh over 20 pounds. The sea record is 34 pounds. To prevent this, it is advisable to use either a sinking line or a downrigger with a meter of line and a 20-30 cm blue, fluorescent or imitation yellow perch lure. Lake trout particularly like depths of up to 200 feet. Of course you have to be patient. If you have a catch, you will definitely remember it. The limit is two lake trout.

Finally, in Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire, you can try your luck at tricking the smallmouth bass. This species occurs without human intervention. It also occurs in some other lakes. The quota is five fish per angler. The use of the famous black Woolly Bugger bow tie is highly recommended.

You can also enlist the services of the outfitter’s guides, who all have little secrets to share with you.

set of activities

In addition, the outfitter has developed numerous outdoor activities for summer, autumn and winter.

“We offer many activities compatible with all the types of stays that we offer at the outfitter,” says Philippe Tousignant. In summer we can talk about quad biking, hiking in the forest, the beach, water activities and more. In the winter we offer snowmobiling, ice fishing, dog sledding, as well as snowshoeing and cross country skiing. We are proud to say that there is never a dull moment with us.”
