“Portofino is a jewel and you have to behave accordingly”, commented Mayor Matteo Vaicava.
But that is not all. The mayor signed an ordinance establishing a kind of “red zone” between the city center and the beaches. Tourist groups are prohibited from stopping here. “We don’t want to ban selfies, we just want to ban gatherings in certain places for security reasons.” From the morning until 6 pm, tourists can enter the main square, but they cannot stop or form crowds, under penalty of being fined, ranging from 65 to 275 euros. The measures particularly affect cruise tourists who are taken from the port city of La Spezia to the cliffs of Cinque Terre and Portofino for a few hours. Up to 30 buses per cruise ship depart for Portofino.

This also applies to men who walk around the village “topless”. There is a ban on slippers on hiking trails in the Ligurian tourist region of Cinque Terre: the reason for this is the many injuries.
