THE BIG DEBATE: Celebrity Halloween parties, are they completely unrealistic?

THE BIG DEBATE Celebrity Halloween parties are they completely unrealistic

Celebrities, they are just like us. Except when it comes to celebrating Halloween, apparently.

While some of us might don a pair of trusty cat ears or throw on an old bed sheet to show the kids trick-or-treating on October 31st, our efforts are ultimately diminished by the influx of celebrities at swanky Halloween parties that dominate our social feeds .

Jonathan Ross, the Kardashians, and of course the self-proclaimed “Halloween Queen” Heidi Klum are all known for hosting these over-the-top spooky soirees. Of course, none of these glamorous events would be complete without the guest list, an army of dressed-up A-listers all trying to outdo each other by donning the most creative costumes.

While many celebrities have opted for classic Halloween looks, such as Adele as Morticia Addams and Kendall Jenner as Marilyn Monroe, the looks that seem to be getting the most attention are the more outlandish costumes that reflect the current zeitgeist. Examples from this year include Paris Hilton and Jessica Alba as Britney Spears or Edward Norton and his wife Shauna Robertson as Posh and Becks.

Heidi Klum in particular is known for her particularly crazy and elaborate outfits. Some of her most memorable and bizarre “looks” in recent years have included “the worm” Jessica Rabbit, complete with facial and body prosthetics, and Princess Fiona from “Shrek.”

This year she certainly didn’t disappoint in this regard: she debuted an elaborate giant peacock costume that required the assistance of no fewer than ten people to maintain.

Klum even went so far as to literally stand on top of a member of her entourage, who obviously got the short end of the stick, and disguised as a single wing that formed the lower half of the peacock – to complete the dramatic look.

Her outfit was complimented by her husband Tom Kaulitz, who was dressed as a large white egg.

About planning her costume, Klum said: “Most people are nurses or police officers, but I was always looking for something I hadn’t seen before.”

There’s no doubt that Klum’s efforts in costume creativity are second to none. But the scale of the preparations and the vast amounts of money apparently poured into these glamorous celebrity-hosted extravaganzas have sparked backlash online.

Critics say that given the devastating war in the Middle East and a cost-of-living crisis that leaves many of us struggling to afford basic necessities, such extravagant displays of wealth seem increasingly out of touch with reality.

One Mail commenter expressed this view, describing celebrity Halloween parties as “a vain display of excess, end.” Correct me if I’m wrong.”

In another comment echoing this sentiment, a reader objected to these extravagant parties given “everything going on in the world” and recommended that “all the money should go to charity instead.”

Others mocked her costume as way too over the top, saying: “She needs an ENTOURAGE to bring her creativity to life!” Oh please! Next!

However, many readers argued that dressing up is “just a bit of fun to lighten the darkness” and expressed their admiration for Klum’s “creativity.”
