Did you suspect that Michel Courtemanche was hidden under the reptilian costume? Only investigator Sam Breton was right when he recognized the 58-year-old comedian, mime artist, actor and producer who, like a chameleon, changed his voice from one appearance to another in the most popular show of the moment.

An artist who doesn’t sing or dance in his life won the third season of “Masked Singers” on TVA on Sunday. To his “big surprise,” the Chameleon got his hands on the coveted Golden Mask. December 3, 2023.

Michel Courtemanche used his entire stage background to create this colorful, funny and entertaining character, who revisited the song “I’m Too Sexy” by the group Right Said Fred for the finale.

“I’m the first to be surprised to have won because there were so many beautiful voices in this ‘show’,” he said in an interview with the QMI agency, adding that in his career he “never” didn’t win anything.

“I think a week after I won I said, ‘Let’s see who’!”

Michel Courtemanche agreed to take part in “Masked Singers” to please his girlfriend, who never misses an episode. He thought he would be eliminated quickly and given the surprise of his life when he was unmasked on the night of the show. But he had no choice but to tell her he was taking part in the show while it was filming – but only to her, he insists! – because the adventure “became more and more serious” and dragged on over time.

“I put my arm in the twister and didn’t expect to make it to the end at all. It took me completely somewhere else and it was a completely crazy experience! It has nothing to do with what I normally do, not even remotely. I never sang and did tap dancing in my show a long time ago.”

Because he is used to recreating movements, he “imitated” the choreographers who helped him prepare. Just a few seconds before his first appearance on stage, the idea of a self-confident character bordering on “fresh crap” came to him,” he revealed.

Michel Courtemanche, who was impressed by the “Masked Singers” team, was embarrassed to sing, but since he was masked, it went well. And he played around dancing, which he enjoyed. Before each number, he warmed up the room, as he had done on tour in another life.

Of course it was hot, very hot, under the chameleon costume. There was a fan built into his head, but the artist sweated his life out during filming last summer. He often gasped for air, he said, and although it was physically “exhausting” at times, he found great joy in creating and performing his numbers.

Remember that Michel still triumphed against great voices like Marie-Denise Pelletier and Mario Pelchat.

Who are the three finalists?

It was Mario Pelchat who slipped into the wolf costume over the course of the season. The coach of “La Voix” opted for a rockier sound than usual to hide his identity. He ended his journey by covering “Ma bouche” by Johnny Hallyday.
