According to organizers, around 70,000 people participated in the demonstration for more climate protection – more than ever before. The march was organized by climate and environmental protection groups such as “Extinction Rebellion”, “Fridays for Future”, Oxfam and Greenpeace. In a joint statement, they referred to the importance of the parliamentary elections on November 22. These are “the most important ones ever” for climate protection.
In election polls, Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s right-liberal party and anti-corruption activist Pieter Omtzigt’s newly founded NSC party are currently in a tight race. Third is an electoral alliance forged by the Greens and the Social Democrats.
