The Block Auctions: Channel Nine’s Profits Revealed Despite Two Houses Not Selling

Channel Nine’s extraordinary win from The Block is revealed despite two houses not selling on auction day

Channel Nine clinched a sizeable profit from this year’s season of The Block, despite two houses being auctioned off and a third barely in reserve.

The network made an estimated profit of $19 million from the auction, which took place in Gisborne on Saturday and aired on the show Sunday night.

Nine paid $11 million last year for the 28-acre property, which was divided into seven lots, five of which were allocated to candidates, reports The Australian.

Reserves for each home totaled over $4 million, and host Scott Cam’s renovation will likely be sold at a later date.

The network is believed to make $30 million if the entire lot is sold.

Omar Slaimankhel and Oz Malik were crowned Sunday’s winners, selling their Reno for $5,666,666 and taking home a record-breaking $1.6 million in prize money.

The West Sydney partners generated the largest total of any five block homes, far exceeding the $4.08 million reserve.

But there was also heartache for two couples, Ankur and Sharon and Dylan and Jenny, who failed to sell their homes at auction.

Their properties were handed over when they failed to attract a bidder over the $4.08 million reserve, with both receiving a winning bid of $4,075,000.

The couples continued to negotiate with their highest bidder after filming.

It’s the first time since season four in 2011 that a block property hasn’t been auctioned off when two teams’ houses were passed.

Tom and Sarah-Jane didn’t fare much better as their home in the Macedon Ranges was sold for a profit of just $20,000.
