The block’s series bidder Danny Wallis admits he “spent too much” to win the House of Omar and Oz

The block’s series bidder Danny Wallis admits he spent “too much” on Omar and Oz’s successful home after getting caught up in a frantic bidding war with their “millionaire pal”.

For the third year in a row, quirky millionaire Danny Wallis acquired three of the properties at The Block’s auction for a whopping $14 million.

The Melbourne-based IT entrepreneur was the sole buyer at this year’s auctions, buying the estate from winners Omar and Oz for a staggering $5.6 million after trading with their ‘millionaire pal’ Adrian Portelli – an online marketing guru. Promotions – caught up in a frenetic bidding war had a net worth of $8 million.

Portelli – who came to the auction in a flashy yellow Lamborghini and seemed to know Omar and Oz well – opened the bid for House 5 at $4.5 million, which was much higher than the $4.08 million reserve price.

His aggressive bidding meant Wallis ended up paying a staggering $5,666,666.66 for the 10-acre, four-bedroom estate, making the boys instant millionaires with total winnings of $1,686,666.66.

Reflecting on his expensive purchases, Wallis said he thought he overpaid for Omar and Oz’s property but got the other two at a bargain price.

“I probably overspent the first auction but was surprised to get two more houses for what I thought was a reasonable price, so I think it all evened out in the end, at least for me,” he said.

Danny also paid $4.1 million for Tom and Sarah Jane’s house and a whopping $4.249 million for Rachel and Ryan’s.

Danny declined to buy either Ankur and Sharon’s home or Dylan and Jenny’s home – as the properties could not be sold.

His purchases mark the third year in a row that Danny has saved block participants by spending big bucks at an auction.

He bought three houses last year for a total of $12.25 million.

Danny is a familiar face at The Block auctions. In 2020, he placed a bid on all five properties, purchasing Mitch and Mark’s for $3.374 million.

He also bought one of the lots in the 2012 season for $1.4 million.

However, some have argued that Danny has worn down his reception, as many fans slammed his “annoying” bidding style during Sunday’s final after he stalled the auction while seeking “advice” from his dog.

“Do the people at #theblock know that the whole ‘Danny’ thing on this show takes away all credibility?!” one person wrote on Twitter.

“How can anyone honestly respect Danny,” asked another, while another chimed in, “Danny suuuuuucks.”
