Due to a major power outage at Nationwide Arena, the Blue Jackets were almost unable to play their game on Tuesday night.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, power went out downtown just after 1 p.m. The company, AEP Ohio, said it could restore power by 6 p.m., half an hour before the start of the game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Ultimately, the Jackets postponed the first puck drop until 8:30 p.m. It was the backup power supply that allowed the coolers to operate during the outage to maintain the quality of the ice surface.
On social media, The Athletic reporter Aaron Portzline reported that the lights in the amphitheater came back on at 5:22 p.m.
