The Blue Jays return to victory

The Toronto Blue Jays’ tumultuous August continued with an impressive 7-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon at the Rogers Centre.

This meant that manager John Schneider’s team found their way to victory after losing the day before. They won the three-game series against the team from the American capital 2-1.

Since the start of the eighth month of the year, the Jays have won at least two wins just three times and won just one series. In August they achieved a record of 14-13.

In today’s matchup, starter Chris Bassitt (13-7) yielded just three hits and one walk in eight innings. In the ninth, backup Jay Jackson came in to finish the job.

The Blue Jays took the lead with batting in their first inning. A double by Alejandro Krik sent Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the plate. The Queen City Club catcher scored another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

The other winning points came from Santiago Espinal, Cavan Biggio and Ernie Clement.

Patrick Corbin (9-12), who was on the mound for the crowd favorite’s first six points, took the loss.

In the heart of the race for the Wild Card spots, the Blue Jays (73-61) are currently three games behind the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. The Canadian team would miss the playoffs if they started tomorrow morning.
