The Blue Jays still have to wait

In their penultimate game of the season, the Toronto Blue Jays failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Queen City club lost 7-5 to the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Center on Saturday.

With a win, the Jays could have punched their ticket to baseball in October. However, they could qualify on the evening if the Seattle Mariners lose against the Texas Rangers. This game will be presented on TVA Sports.

If the Washington State team wins, the Blue Jays’ fate will be decided against the same Rays on Sunday, the final day of the 2023 major baseball regular season. You can watch this meet on TVA Sports starting at 3 p.m.

The Toronto team is currently ranked second among teams drafted in the United States. They are one and two games ahead of the Houston Astros and Mariners, respectively. The Texas club will also be in action later in the evening.

The Jays escape in the 10th inning

In the duel against the Rays, the Blue Jays pulled away in the 10th inning. The visitors took advantage of the generosity of shooter Jordan Hicks (3-9) and scored three points.

Thanks to a brace from Bo Bichette, coach John Schneider’s team got back on the offensive to have one last chance. However, it was too little, too late.

After their rivals’ first three at-bats, the Blue Jays trailed by two heading into the third inning. Daulton Varsho hit a solo home run that cut the lead in half.

The latter also gave his team the second and third points. He started a three-run surge in the fourth by sending Alejandro Kirk and Kevin Kiermaier to the plate with singles. George Springer produced the other crowd favorite hit.

An inning later, Harold Ramirez threw a shot from reliever Trevor Richards out of bounds while teammate Randy Arozarena was already manning the lanes. The 29-year-old Colombian’s bombshell brought everyone back on an equal footing.
