The team’s next leader will be the 24th recipient of the “C” in franchise history. The Blues have had a captain every season since 1996/97. Ryan O’Reilly held that position last year before moving to the Toronto Maple Leafs last February.

Several names stand out in the race for the captaincy. Brayden Schenn, a 32-year veteran, has been an assistant since 2020-21. He would be the one to take O’Reilly’s place in the locker room. The center also leads by example and collected 65 points in 82 games last year.

Defenseman Colton Parayko is also a name floating around in conversations. The 30-year-old Albertan spent his eight seasons in the National Hockey League in St. Louis. Another interesting option is striker Robert Thomas, who is only 24 years old but is under contract until 2030-2031.
