Havana, June 8 (EFE).- Cuba will host the 36th edition of the Boleros de Oro Festival from June 15 to 18, a traditional event of this genre that will regain its international character after the pandemic, official media reported to them Thursday .
The event brings together singers of the genre from both Cuba and other countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Argentina.
It will be dedicated to the 140 years of “Sadness”, the first bolero composed in 1883 by José “Pepe” Sánchez from Santiago, according to the president of the organizing committee, the musician José Loyola.
The event will highlight the musical importance of the late singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés (1943-2022), who was also a bolero performer in his illustrious artistic career, as well as other personalities inspired by the singing of boleros, a vocal, instrumental and danceable instrument , preeminent genre of the song movement., declared Cultural Heritage of Cuba in 2021.
Established in 1987, the Boleros de Oro Festival hosts artistic galas at the National Theater in Havana – its main venue – and in various provinces.
There will also be a theoretical session bringing together composers, researchers, artists and specialists from the island and other countries to discuss the development of the bolero.
Among the thematic chapters that structure the shows and activities of the festival are: the ranchero and the mariachi, the tango in the bolero, the bachata and the bolero, the lyrical bolero and the Moorish bolero and flamenco and its association with choral groups and other song formats .
