Tierney, 28, has appeared in 13 games for the Florida side this season, scoring two goals and one assist.
It wasn’t the first time in the campaign that the Ontarian was subject to waivers. He had not yet been called in at the start of the season in October.
The former Ottawa and San Jose Sharks senator, who can play both center and wing, had his best season in 2018-2019. With the “Sens” he had scored nine goals and 48 points.
Tierney also traded with Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, Dylan DeMelo and several draft picks that made Erik Karlsson a member of the Sharks in 2018.
Tierney, Christian Dvorak’s former London Knights teammate, will achieve full autonomy at the end of the season. He signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Panthers last July.
In his career he has scored 75 goals and 229 points in 574 games.
