It’s only two weeks into the 2022 season, but Nolan Gorman is ending his team’s streak with a flourish.
Baseball’s No. 32 overall prospect continued his power rush at the dish with a home run in his fourth straight game and increased his hitting streak to seven as Triple-A Memphis lost 9-3 in their series final at Charlotte.
After being hit by a pitch in the second inning and jumping out to second base in the third, Gorman came through in the sixth. The Redbirds hitter-designated connected with an offer from Knights starter John Parke and went the other way to lay it down left for a solo shot on the Pavilion roof.
The homer was Gorman’s sixth in as many games since starting a pair against Gwinnett in his last series final on April 10.
“Boys are a lot better up here,” Gorman said of Triple-A after that performance. “They have good things and they can master them. You have to be able to really choose your zone and not bother chasing pitches. It’s really just accepting that they are cornered and just waiting for them to make a mistake. If they do, don’t miss out. That’s a big thing that I’ve been focused on, just shrinking the zone and only hitting pitches I know I can ride.
Since a 0-for-9 start with five strikeouts in his team’s first three games, the No. 2 St. Louis has gone 13-for-28 (.464) with six home runs, all solo blasts.
“It was good to get back into the swing of things and to play against good teams and good players,” said the 21-year-old a week ago. “It was fun and we as a team, I think we have a good team out here. It was fun learning and developing with these guys.”
Through 10 games this season, Gorman is now batting .351/.415/.838.
