The CFL was slow to celebrate the Alouettes’ victory

It took nearly 24 hours after the Alouettes’ victory in the Gray Cup final for the French-language Canadian Football League (CFL) account on X to highlight the Montreal team’s victory in its news feed.

On Monday evening, the account finally published a photo of the “Als” triumph. The latter defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28 to 24. The English account of the circuit was still well filled.

“Due to a stupid handling error, our congratulations that we wanted to send yesterday after the meeting were not published. We corrected everything when we were made aware of the situation early in the evening upon our return from Hamilton. Our team is truly sorry,” the CFL account said in the evening.

“We wish the Alouettes fans happy celebrations. If there’s as much fun in the city as there was in the locker room yesterday, it’s going to be one hell of a party and we hope you enjoy every moment of it.”

The monolingual English display at Tim Hortons Field was the talk of the town before Sunday’s game.

Clearly the league still has a lot of work to do to ensure good representation in both official languages.
