BROSSARD | Nick Suzuki wears the “ VS » Captain on his jersey for a second season. With this letter he takes on a unifying role on the ice rink, in the locker room, but also in organizing excursions that don’t always have anything to do with hockey.

Before heading to the pretty village of Mont-Tremblant, Suzuki gathered important information about his teammates.

“I needed to know the guys’ golf handicaps to put together the fairest teams for a small friendly tournament,” Suzuki said.

According to some spies, Suzuki would do well on a golf course. Kirby Dach, like Jake Allen, is a very good golfer. However, Samuel Montembeault does not have this talent.

The CH traveled to Tremblant after a training session lasting just over an hour on Wednesday morning in Brossard. The Martin St-Louis team will spend the next three nights in this corner of the country building even stronger bonds outside of the rink. They will also train on Thursdays and Fridays at the Gilles Cadieux Arena.

“You don’t build relationships if you don’t spend time with your teammates,” St-Louis said logically. You don’t know anyone if you don’t do anything outside of hockey. It is an opportunity to get closer to each other and it will allow us to build camaraderie. »

Mike Matheson will also participate in team activities.

“When I played for the Panthers in Florida, I had closed retirements. I didn’t have that opportunity with the Penguins because there was COVID. It’s always nice to get together before the season starts. In Florida we did this in the Everglades. They were small things that looked like a military camp. »

Matheson, plagued by a mysterious discomfort for several days, skated with David Savard in practice. He says he is fully recovered and hopes to play in the final preseason game against the Senators on Saturday in Ottawa.
