The Chicago White Sox reinstated Tim Anderson from the 10-day injured list, putting him back at the top of the lineup

CHICAGO — Shortstop Tim Anderson was reinstated from the 10-day injury list Monday before the Chicago White Sox opened a home series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

To make room on the list for Anderson, Chicago placed third baseman Yoan Moncada on the 10-day injured list retroactively to June 18 with a strained right hamstring.

Anderson, who was on a rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte while working his way back from a groin injury, was sent to his usual starting spot for the opener against the Blue Jays.

The 2019 AL batting champion bagged a win against the Chicago Cubs late last month and went down in outfield after setting up PJ Higgins’ grounder in the fifth inning and throwing first for the out.

A first-time All-Star in 2021, whom manager Tony La Russa has dubbed “our detonator,” Anderson was among the leaders at the time of the injury with a .356 batting average. He has five homers and 19 RBIs in 40 games.

Moncada walked out of Friday night’s loss to the Houston Astros in the third inning with strains in his left hamstring.

Moncada stopped after running to first base with a groundout in the second inning and hobbled slightly as he returned to the dugout. He stayed in the game at the end of the inning at third base before being replaced by Josh Harrison in the third.

Moncada missed the start of the season with a tense slash, not playing until May 9.

At 31-33 through Sunday, the White Sox are attempting to get back into contention in the National League Central. Chicago opened the Toronto series five games behind the first-placed Minnesota Twins.
