BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping Thursday called on countries neighboring Afghanistan to do their best to help the Afghan people create a better future.

Xi made the remarks in a written message to the third meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in Tunxi, east China’s Anhui Province.

Xi pointed out that Afghanistan is in dire need of development in many areas, given what it has experienced in the past. The country has reached a critical point of transition from chaos to order, he said.

“Afghanistan is a common neighbor and partner of all participating countries, and we form a community with a common future, connected by the same mountains and rivers that share both joy and sorrow.

The Chinese leader also pointed out that an Afghanistan of peace, stability, development and prosperity is the aspiration of the entire Afghan people, and is also in the common interests of countries in the region and the international community.

Xi stressed that good neighborliness is priceless for a country.

“China always respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and is determined to support its pursuit of peace, stability and development,” he said.

The Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism among Afghanistan’s neighbors since its inception last September has been striving to leverage the advantages of neighboring countries, thus playing a constructive role in promoting a stable transition in Afghanistan, the chairman said.

Xi stressed that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries should do everything in their power to reach consensus and coordinate efforts to help the people of Afghanistan build a better future.
