35.4 million voters were called on this Sunday to vote on the election of their next mayor. Among the more than 8,000 municipalities whose plenary sessions are taking place this year, the parties have particularly turned to those with more political clout. Madrid

With 81.27% of the votes counted, the PP wins the elections in Madrid with 29 councillors, followed by Más Madrid (12 councillors), the PSOE (11) and Vox (five). Podemos-Izquierda Unida and Ciudadanos are not allowed to enter the town hall. With these results, José Luis Martínez-Almeida will have an absolute majority and will govern alone.

In 2019, Más Madrid won (19 councillors), followed by PP (15), Ciudadanos (11), PSOE (eight) and Vox (four). The people formed a government with Ciudadanos and received the support of Vox in the investiture. The absolute majority is achieved with 29 city councillors.

Barcelona

With a vote of 97.62%, Xavier Trias wins the elections in Barcelona and Junts gets 11 councillors. The PSC follows with 10 councillors, while current mayor Ada Colau reaps nine councilors with Barcelona en Comú. The ERC loses half of its councilors and is down to five, one more than the PP. Vox gets two.

In the previous municipal elections, ERC won with 10 councillors, as did Barcelona en Comú, but the Sovereignists received almost 5,000 more votes. Third place went to the PSC (eight councillors), ahead of the candidacy of former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, BCN Canvi-Cs (six), Junts (five) and PP (two). Colau was elected with the approval of the Socialists, who are part of the city government, and Valls against the guidelines of Ciudadanos.

In order to achieve an absolute majority, 21 city councilors must be added.

Valencia

With 97.2% of the votes counted, the right wing snatches the city council from the left. The PP gets 13 councilors and could achieve an absolute majority with Vox’s four. Acord per Guanyar, where Compromís is integrated, reaches nine councilors and the PSOE seven.

In 2019, Compromís won with ten councilors, two more than the PP and three more than the PSOE. The plenary session is completed by Ciudadanos (six councilors) and Vox (two). The government is formed by Compromís and PSOE. The absolute majority is reached with 17 city councillors.

Seville

With 99.45% of the vote, the PP wins the elections with 14 councillors, two more than the PSOE. Vox gets three councilors and Con Andalucía two. In doing so, the right snatched the mayoralty of the Andalusian capital from the Socialists, who have held it since 2015.

In the previous municipal elections, the PSOE won 13 councillors, compared to eight for the PP. Adelante Andalucía got four, as did Ciudadanos, and Vox two. The absolute majority are 16 councillors.

Zaragoza

With 94.94% of the votes counted, the PP (15 councillors) wins the elections in Zaragoza, just one point short of the absolute majority that it would surpass with the four Vox mayors. The PSOE is the second largest force with the most votes (ten councillors), while Zaragoza en Común gets two.

The Socialists won the 2019 elections in Zaragoza, but the PP won the mayoralty with the positive votes of Ciudadanos and Vox. The PSOE then got ten mayors, two more than the PP. They completed the municipal bodies Ciudadanos (six), Zaragoza en Común (three), Vox (two) and Podemos-Equo (two).

In order to achieve an absolute majority, the consent of 16 council members must be obtained.

Bilbao

The PNV is winning in Bilbao, where it has governed since the first municipal elections after the end of Franco’s dictatorship in 1979. Current Mayor Juan Mari Aburto has won 12 councillors, followed by Bildu (six) and the Socialists (five). ), PP (four) and Podemos (two).

In the previous elections, the PNV prevailed with 14 councillors, two more than now and only one with an absolute majority. The Socialists got five councillors, Bildu another four, and both Podemos and the PP three each. The PSE is part of the city administration.

Santiago de Compostela

The PP wins the elections in Santiago de Compostela, where it wins 11 councillors. It is followed by the BNG with six, as well as the PSOE. Compostela Aberta gets two.

The Galician capital is currently governed by the PSOE, which received ten councilors in 2019, two more than the PP. Compostela Aberta reached five councilors and the BNG three. The city council is made up of the Socialists alone, in which the absolute majority is made up of 13 city councillors.
