Residents of a Virginia town were ordered to take shelter Thursday as police tried to find an “armed and dangerous” man after he tried to run over two officers with a stolen police car.

Police say Jerrod Celablee Brown, 34, also stole more firearms from the police vehicle and fled on foot after the accident.

Police have asked residents not to approach Brown while officers gather in Pulaski’s south side to search for the fugitive.

“ALL SOUTHSIDE RESIDENTS SHOULD HAVE LOCATION DIFFERENCE. DO NOT ACCESS THE ITEM!!! CALL 911 IF YOU SEE ANYTHING SUSPECT,” the Pulaski Police Department said on Facebook.

Brown has a long history of criminal offenses, beginning with a drunk driving charge in 2007.

Other charges include trespassing, assault, and other drug and alcohol offenses.

Schools in the area have also been ordered to “take shelter on site until the situation is resolved,” according to a statement from Pulaski County Public Schools.

Despite the alarming nature of the situation, the statement said, “This is only a precautionary measure and there are no actual problems in the Pulaski County public school buildings.”

They listed the school buildings to be housed on-site as Pulaski Elementary School, Critzer Elementary School, Dublin Elementary School, Pulaski County Middle School, Pulaski County High School and The School Board Office.
