The Colombian government has allocated a historic budget to education

According to the data offered, the amount exceeds 70 trillion pesos, 17.3 billion dollars, a figure higher than the 57 trillion in 2023.

This post enables further progress in responding to the needs and requirements related to early childhood care, educational infrastructure, school feeding, quality of education and access and sustainability in the education system at all levels.

It will also be possible to achieve well-being goals and respect agreements with teachers, students and educational institutions.

The Minister of Education, Aurora Vergara, also highlighted the “University in your territory” during the accountability of this department, which took place in the city of Buenaventura for the period from August 7, 2022 to October 31, 2023.

The initiative, unveiled last July by President Gustavo Petro, aims to ensure that all young people in the country have the right to higher education.

This gives them access to academic programs relevant to their region, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

This initiative includes measures to expand insurance coverage and a free policy aimed at creating 500,000 new places over the four-year period to help young people access academic programs.

Other areas covered by this program relate to the adaptation of educational spaces, programs for the immediate transition to higher education, the transformation of the education quality assurance system and the comprehensive education system.

Also noteworthy is the creation of the PAE+ program to provide food to 600,000 boys and girls in 109 municipalities in 17 departments, 365 days a year, beyond the school calendar.

Another success was the submission of the draft law to the Congress of the Republic, which aims to reaffirm the character of education as a fundamental right of all Colombians, emphasized the minister.

The aim of this regulation is to gradually expand access to education from early childhood to higher education.

Likewise, he pointed out that the national government has prioritized the inclusion of 10,400 teachers in the official teaching staff for the period 2024 with an investment of 750 billion pesos.

In addition, 20,000 places for postgraduate education, 5,000 for comprehensive training of ordinary students and 1,239 for new school counselors were opened in the communities for the reintegration of ex-combatants.
