The calm after the storm
The storm Sunday through Monday will leave large accumulations in its path. In total, up to 35 cm of snow will fall in Estrie, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Basse-Côte-Nord. In the east, Gaspésie and the Haute-Côte-Nord will experience storms of up to 70 mm. Montreal will claim a maximum of about four centimeters, unlike last week when about thirty centimeters fell.
From Tuesday, the province will be illuminated with calm weather and a good dose of sunshine. Temperatures will be rather cold at the start of the week before warming up from Thursday: highs could reach 5 degrees Celsius in southern Quebec. It's thanks to an area of high pressure over the eastern United States that such conditions are possible.
Good to know: December is the cloudiest month of the year and the time when daylight is at its shortest. December 10th is the earliest date the sun sets, i.e. 4:10 p.m. for Montreal, 3:56 p.m. for Quebec and 3:21 p.m. for Gaspé. Do not confuse day length with sunset time, which reaches its minimum at different times.
Finally some sun
Since the beginning of the month, there has only been one day with a sunny afternoon in Montreal and just two days in the national capital. Plus, those days were cold.
For the first time in December, Quebecers can enjoy several days with temperatures above 0°C, especially towards the end of the week, while also enjoying favorable weather conditions.
This is great news for winter lovers: athletes and outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of all the snow left by Monday's storm. A small system could bring cold air back on Tuesday and Wednesday, creating ideal conditions for skiing.
