The Common Front will explain its position at a press conference at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, following negotiations that took place throughout Tuesday.

Remember that the Common Front has had a mandate for an unlimited general strike since last October. However, the unions have not yet considered the deployment to be sensible.

This could change if the government and the Common Front (CSQ, CSN, FTQ and APTS) fail to reach an agreement by the end of the year.

No date has been announced. The Common Front says that the indefinite general strike will be declared “in due course.”

In a press release, the unions state that discussions at the negotiating table continue to progress, but that “the issues of salaries, insurance, regional differences and skilled workers are still not resolved.”

Today the Legault government presented an important new offer aimed at ending the conflict between it and public sector teachers.

“Why all this spectacle today? I don’t understand it,” said Josée Scalabrini, president of the Federation of Education Unions. “Unlike at the weekend, we have major setbacks.”

In early December, Quebec increased its salary offer for public sector employees from 10.3% to 12.7%. However, this was rejected en masse by all unions.

Union Common Front workers went on strike for a total of eleven days.
