The king Charles III, personally commissioned the composition twelve new pieces of music to be heard during his coronation and that of the queen’s consort, Kamilanext May 6th at the Westminster Abbeythis was confirmed this Saturday by Buckingham Palace.
The new pieces will represent a “broad spectrum of musical styles.” which combine “tradition, heritage and ceremonial” with “voices of today”, explained a spokesman for the monarch’s official residence.
The order reflects “the passion and support the king has given to music and the arts throughout his life,” the palace said.
Andreas NethsinghaOrganist and Choirmaster of Westminster Abbey, will oversee all musical arrangements and conduct performances during the ceremony in London.
The music manager Royal Opera House, Antonio Pappanoacts as director of coronation orchestraa formation selected for the occasion, in which musicians from various British “ensembles” will take part, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The ordered pieces Charles III include a coronation anthemcompiled by Andrew Lloyd WebberA coronation marchresponsible for Patrick Doyleand an organ solo Lay Farrington.
Among other interpretations that Byzantine vocal ensemble will attend the ceremony orthodox greek music in tribute to the sovereign’s father, Prince Philip of Edinburgh, who was born in Greece and died in April 2021.
To those of Charles III. Commissioned pieces include a Coronation Hymn composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, a Coronation March conducted by Patrick Doyle and an organ solo by Iain Farrington.
“Each coronation ceremony is a blend of deep-rooted traditions and contemporary innovation.‘ Nethsingha said in a statement from the palace.
“As with all four coronations in the 20th century, the music selection reflects the cultural heritage of the times we live in,” he added.

The crown has been used since King Charles II was installed in 1661, after the monarchy was restored after the 10-year republic Oliver Cromwell.
St Edward’s Jewel replaced a medieval version believed to date from, and was, the reign of Edward the Confessor in the 11th century cast in 1649. It is believed that the original goes back to Edward the Confessor, who reigned from 1042 to 1066.
The palace plans the coronation, known as Operation Golden Orbas Charles and his heir, Prince William, try to prove that the monarchy is still relevant in modern, multicultural Britain.

After the death of Isabel II Last September, at the age of 96, the various crowns symbolizing his reign will pass to his son and will have to be enlarged to match his size.
This will require increasing the scope and adding some gems, the reverse process to that performed when the previous sovereign ascended the throne, as described by British media.
