A controversial penalty and a fumble by the Detroit Lions on a two-point conversion attempt late in the game Saturday night gave the Cowboys a 20-19 victory in Arlington, Texas.
It looked like the Lions had converted an Amon-Ra St. Brown touchdown to take a 21-20 lead with less than 30 seconds to play, but an illegal receiver penalty during the sequence forced the team to do it again to start from the beginning.
The second attempt failed completely and resulted in an interception, but the sequence had to be restarted due to the Cowboys being offside. The third attempt ultimately ended in an incomplete pass, dashing the Lions' hopes.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff said he was confused after the meetingwith the certainty that the player deemed ineligible by the officials, Taylor Decker, was in fact ineligible.
Regardless, this win allows the Cowboys to post an 11-5 record. The Lions have the exact same record.
Dak Prescott threw for 345 yards and two touchdown passes in the win. These were captured by CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks.
For his part, Goff threw for 271 yards and one touchdown pass against two interceptions.
Aidan Hutchinson excelled with three sacks in the loss.
