1698954574 The Crown Fargo and other series recommended for November 2023

“The Crown”, “Fargo” and other series recommended for November 2023

November will be one of the months with the most interesting series proposals in all of 2023. The intention behind this may be to provide viewers with content for the Christmas holidays (and Thanksgiving in the US). Two important farewells begin this month. Netflix will premiere the first four episodes of The Crown’s final season on November 16th (we’ll have to wait until December 14th for the final six). For its part, Disney + will premiere this month the final season of the comedy “Reservation Dogs”, a gem not as well known as the series about Elizabeth II but highly appreciated by critics. In addition, the suggestions we have selected include a passionate love story wrapped in complex political circumstances, mysteries and murders in picturesque passages, Berto Romero’s turn to terror or the new season of Fargo.

Another return, in this case after almost 20 years of absence from television, is that of Frasier (Day 3 on SkyShowtime), with Kelsey Gramer reprising the character of the snobbish psychiatrist and radio host. In Based on a True Story (Day 13 on Movistar Plus+), Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina parody the obsession with true crime stories. Two British productions with many followers are returning in the coming weeks: Fantasmas (day 6 on Movistar Plus+) with the final season and All Creatures Great and Small (day 28 on Filmin), with characters already from 1940.

More information

The new episode of For All Humanity (Day 10 on Apple TV+) is set in 2003, with Mars as the planet to be explored. In the second season of The Newsreader (November 20 on COSMO and December 12 on Filmin), its journalists deal with news events from 1987. Monsters of different shapes preside over two more proposals: in Romancero (Day 3 on Amazon Prime Video). She from Fantastic Creatures Related to Folk Heritage and Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters (17th on Apple TV+) takes Godzilla’s attack on San Francisco as its starting point. Additionally, the first of three Doctor Who specials (Day 25 on Disney+) will appear with David Tennant before Ncuti Gatwa takes on the character’s skin in 2024.

Of this month’s premieres and returns (which you can check out on our calendar), we recommend giving this selection a chance.

The light you can’t see

Aria Mia Loberti, protagonist of “The Light You Can’t See”, in the first episode of the series.

The fates of Marie-Laurie, a young blind French woman, and Werner, a teenager recruited by the Nazi army to monitor illegal radio broadcasts, are united by a shortwave radio broadcast. Marie and her father flee Paris and take refuge in Saint-Malo with her great-uncle, a war veteran, who lives locked up in his house. Werner’s life as an orphan and separated from his sister has not been easy either, but he manages to maintain his ideals and idealism despite the circumstances. Set against the backdrop of World War II, this four-part series, adapting the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, is a hymn to hope, kindness, and human connection.

Where and when can you see it? It premieres on Thursday the 2nd on Netflix.

Nolly

Helena Bonham Carter, in the series “Nolly”.

Russell T. Davies, the creator of such acclaimed series as It’s a Sin and Years and Years, is responsible for this series, in which Helena Bonham Carter plays British soap opera actress Noele Gordon, Nolly. The story follows the rise of the woman who starred for 17 years in the soap opera Crossroads, in which she played the owner of a motel. Although the success of the series was largely based on her charisma, she was suddenly fired, which became a nationwide scandal. Worth highlighting is Bonham Carter’s brilliant performance, full of irony, acidity and tenderness, and the homage that the production pays not only to the actress herself, but also to television in the seventies and eighties.

Where and when can you see it? The three episodes will be available on Filmin on the 7th.

Murder at the end of the world

Emma Corrin, in Murder at the End of the World.

A young hacker and amateur detective receives a mysterious invitation from a millionaire to attend a retreat in a remote part of Iceland. She accepts, motivated by her interest in getting to know the host’s wife. Eight other people travel there, but on the first night one of the guests is found dead. She will put her skills to use to prove it is a murder. Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, co-creators of The OA, are responsible for this seven-episode story starring Emma Corrin and Clive Owen and Brit Marling themselves as the mysterious host couple. A disturbing and interesting twist on the classic crime novel.

Where and when can you see it? From the 14th on Disney+, with weekly episodes.

The crown

The great series about the reign of Elizabeth II, written by Peter Morgan, comes to an end. As is becoming more and more common for Netflix with its big titles, it will be split into two parts. The first four episodes, which will air in November, focus on Princess Diana and how her relationship with Dodi Al-Fayed became the obsession of the paparazzi. A trip to Paris with fatal consequences changes everything and the queen is surprised by the enormous pain that spreads throughout the country. The official summary of these episodes therefore shows that one of the most controversial moments has come for the British royal family and especially for Queen Elizabeth II: her reaction after the death of Lady Di. The second part of the season is about the development of the relationship between William and Kate, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and the wedding of Charles and Camilla.

Where and when can you see it? The first part (four chapters) starts on Netflix on Thursday the 16th. The second (six chapters) will be released on December 14th.

Sentence

Bella Ramsey, Jodie Whittaker and Tamara Lawrence in the second season of Condemnation.

Sean Bean and Stephen Graham starred in the first season of this prison drama. The former played an ordinary teacher who goes to prison after killing a man in a drunken accident, and the latter played one of the prison guards. The series showed the drama and horror of everyday prison life. The new season moves to a women’s prison and follows three new inmates, played by Bella Ramsey, Jodie Whittaker and Tamara Lawrence, as they share a cell and come together to face their new reality. British critics are praising this second season, the performances of its protagonists and how it focuses on motherhood and the struggles of these women outside of prison.

Where and when can you see it? On the 17th, the first episode will premiere on Movistar Plus+, with a new one every Friday until the third season ends.

Camilo Superstar

In four chapters and with the production of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar in Spain as a central theme, the series follows the career of Camilo Sesto. In the 1960s, the singer decided to adapt the most transgressive musical of the time, an odyssey in the midst of a dictatorship. The task will be full of setbacks, such as overcoming censorship, various threats and sabotage by ultra-Catholic movements, in addition to the difficulties associated with convening a major assembly. The series, which is halfway between biopic and musical and also depicts the dark side of the music industry, was presented at the San Sebastián Festival and the reactions were different, but the theme and the character (played by Alejandro Jato) arouse curiosity .

Where and when can you see it? From the 19th at Atresplayer.

fellow travelers

Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey in Fellow Travelers.

A love story mixed with a political thriller that begins in the eighties, when the two protagonists have been separated for a long time, and then moves straight on to the beginnings of a decade-long, changeable relationship. The charismatic Hawkins Fuller and the idealist Tim Laughlin met in the 1950s, at the height of McCarthyism and its fight against what he saw as subversive and sexually deviant elements. In this environment, a homosexual relationship develops that they have to keep secret: Hawkins is about to be engaged to a woman and has a budding political career ahead of him. Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey play the couple in an interesting series, well told and well produced.

Where and when can you see it? On SkyShowtime, March 19th

The other side

Berto Romero and Andreu Buenafuente in “The Other Side.”

After the fantastic autofiction exercise “Look What You’ve Done,” Berto Romero turns to horror with comedic undertones. The plot revolves around a journalist specializing in paranormal cases who is going through a bad time. A failed suicide attempt will result in the ghost of his former mentor following him everywhere as he investigates a possible poltergeist in an apartment on the outskirts of Barcelona. During his investigation, he will remember the first case he dealt with. Mystery and some horror go hand in hand with humor in a series in which Romero himself is accompanied by Andreu Buenafuente, María Botto, Eva Ugarte and Nacho Vigalondo.

Where and when can you see it? The premiere of the six episodes will take place on November 23rd on Movistar Plus+.

Fargo

Jon Hamm, in the fifth season of “Fargo.”

Since 2014, screenwriter Noah Hawley has been bringing to the small screen stories inspired by the spirit of the film released by the Coen brothers in 1996. A fifth season will be released three years after the last part. The story takes place in 2019 and stars Juno Temple, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Temple plays a housewife trying to escape her past. The North Dakota sheriff (Hamm) tries to find the woman, who also has to deal with a mother-in-law (Jason Leigh) who doesn’t think well of her. The series returns to what it does best: ordinary characters overwhelmed by extreme and surreal circumstances.

Where and when can you see it? From the 29th on Movistar Plus+.

Reservation dogs

An image from the final season of “Reservation Dogs.”

Four friends living on an Indian reservation dream of leaving their homeland in search of other opportunities and ultimately flying away from a destination they don’t like. Created by Sterling Harjo and Taika Waititi, this comedy is one of American television critics’ favorites, and for good reason. His peculiar tone, delicate but poignant, surreal but grounded, with a powerful magical realism that celebrates his Indian roots, is something unique on television. The third and final season was equally or more celebrated than the previous ones. The only shame is that it’s over now.

Where and when can you see it? On Disney+ from the 29th.
