Many have argued that scenes filmed before Princess Diana’s death in Paris were insensitive – as was the series, which launched not long after the Queen’s death last September.
The new series focused heavily on the clashes between Princess Diana, played by Debicki, and King Charles (then Prince of Wales), played by West, and featured a series of low points for the royals.
These included the failure of Charles and Diana’s marriage, the late King’s controversial Panorama interview and the infamous “tampongate” phone call between the King and Queen, then Camilla.
Acting Royal Lady Judi Dench, who is close to King Charles and Camilla, has accused the program of being “raw and hurtful”.
