The Crown: The young romance between William and Kate seems “strange and stagnant,” reveals actor Ed McVey, who plays the prince in the latest Netflix series

The first trailer for the final installment of The Crown gives a glimpse into the romance between William and Kate, including when he spotted her in St. Andrews in the now-infamous see-through dress and their first kiss.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Prince Charles is shown being “unpopular” and arguing with his heir, while the Queen mourns the death of her sister Margaret.

The trailer for part 2 of the show’s sixth season is 2 minutes and 44 seconds long and begins with Princes William and Harry in happier times. It shows the two brothers – who are now considered estranged in real life – grinning together as they pose for a family photo.

The Peter Morgan drama, which will be released on Netflix on December 14, has sparked controversy for its portrayal of the Windsor family.

The final season covers the early 2000s as the family struggled with the fallout from Princess Diana’s death, a growing republican movement and Charles’ strained relationship with William.

The late Queen Elizabeth II, played by Imelda Staunton, is seen in the trailer receiving public feedback from royal advisers, including criticism that the Windsor family “lacks compassion.”

Tony Blair, Prime Minister in the years after Diana’s death, is referred to as “King Tony” in one scene as the display of his perceived power during his first term in office is dramatized.

The series also shows Prince William, overwhelmed, getting out of a car to greet thousands of mourners who had gathered at Kensington Palace in the days after his mother died in a car crash in a Paris underpass in 1997.

Later, the show hints at tensions between father and son when Prince Charles tells William, “Fathers and sons don’t do very well in this family.”

However, there are plenty of feel-good moments as the teaser reaches its climax.

It’s expected that much of the second part of The Crown’s final season on our screens will focus on the blossoming relationship between the current Prince and Princess of Wales.

In the trailer, Prince William is seen doe-eyed as he spots his future wife in the now famous fashion show. As the trailer ends, they share a passionate first kiss.

Photos released earlier this week showed Meg Bellamy, the 21-year-old actress from Wokingham who was plucked from nowhere to play Kate, recreating the royal’s iconic look when she starred in St Andrew’s Bay Hotel in 2002 .

William is believed to have paid £200 for a ticket to sit front row at the show with friends and is rumored to have turned to one of them and said: “Wow, Kate is hot.”

It was said to be the turning point in the couple’s relationship as they eventually went from being close friends to having romantic feelings for each other.

The dress in question was auctioned off following the catwalk show for a staggering £78,000 and became one of Kate’s most iconic fashion moments.

The couple were studying at St Andrew’s University at the time and had met the year before, although Kate’s catwalk appearance was believed to be the catalyst for a romance.

Kate was pursuing a degree in art history, while William, who had initially enrolled in art history, had switched to geography.
