With 1,307 passengers and 913 crew members, this cruise ship anchored from Aruba, crossed the Panama Canal and spent eight hours in “El Puerto” to allow passengers to visit tourist attractions such as Aranjuez, Monteverde, Jacó, Esparza, Sarchí, La Guácima and Naranjo, the said Institute of Tourism (ICT) of Costa Rica.
He stressed that by doing so they promote the work of tour guides, artisans, as well as gastronomy, transport and other activities related to the sector.
The Director of Tourism Management of the ICT, Gustavo Alvarado, today completed the reopening of the cruise tourism season that began on September 2, 2021 after 17 months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in this time they have arrived more than 80 ships and more than 30,000 cruise ship passengers to the Pacific Coast.
He assured that the gradual reactivation of this segment was carried out under strict sanitary protocols to allow for the economic recovery of the country’s coasts.
In addition to the onboard biosecurity protocol, Costa Rican companies are committed to complying with and overseeing the application of local protocols established for each operation and those of all stakeholders involved in ship care, including ships that do not lead carry out their trips at their maximum capacity as prevention.
For his part, the executive president of the Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports, Widman Cruz, emphasized that the season has started quite strongly, despite the severe pandemic that has hit the cruise industry hard for more than 17 months with the closure of borders to the sea tourism.
He emphasized that “an organized team and a solid marketing strategy between the Puntarenas Tourism Board and the ICT were key to positioning this destination on the cruise tourist agenda”.
