Parents whose children attend a Center de Services Scolaire des Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais (CSSHBO) facility may notice changes to the school transport policy.

This is because the CSSHBO has decided to apply this policy to the letter, whereas previously it had shown flexibility on certain points. This was the case, inter alia, with the application of distances for walkers, who were sometimes entitled to school transport and should not have had access to it under the provisions of this Directive. This means that those children who used school transportation due to this policy violation will no longer be eligible for it. Many children who were waiting for the bus outside their house now have to go to a specific stop, sometimes a few hundred meters from their home. The organization’s general director, Denis Rossignol, speaks about the distances some children have to travel:

This situation is anything but unanimous, as shown by the approximately 200 questions and inquiries that have been sent to the CSSHBO on this topic in recent months. Mr Rossignol explains the reason for the tightening of this policy:

Although the School Service Center and its partners have already carried out preliminary work to ensure that the changes made do not impact the safety of children, it is aware that certain specific problems may remain. The organization therefore invites parents to communicate their concerns in writing to the following address: [email protected].
