More than 2,000,000 visitors chose Cuba as their destination in 2023, including from Canada, the main source of tourism in the Greater Antilles. Russia and some European countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and some from Latin America also stand out.
This was confirmed in the annual balance meeting of the Ministry of Tourism, led by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the member of the Politburo and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.
These results were achieved despite the measures taken by the United States government to prevent the development of tourism on the island, including sanctions against citizens allowed to enter the territory of the United States if they have previously visited Cuba; the ban on the use of international credit cards, financial persecution and hate campaigns.
But Cuba has the values to counteract the cruel imperial policies and in this context, Díaz-Canel called for defending sustainable development practices, environmental protection and the application of the circular economy, and to present the country appropriately, the minister told the time and the digital world.
We must, he argued, highlight the many unique things we have, to use animations based on Cuban culture, to respond to what characterizes us as a people, and to use science and innovation with creativity.
Marrero Cruz urged to plan the sector's potential and consolidate ties with non-state forms of management.
According to Juan Carlos García Granda, Minister of Tourism, workers in this sector want to address the deficits in 2024, offer quality products and services and overcome the barrier of three million visitors.
