Fiala also called for better interaction between the community and the countries of origin of illegal immigrants seeking to enter Europe.

The President plans to raise the issue with his colleagues today at the one-day summit of the European Political Community in Granada.

According to Fiala, his country is ready to support the boldest measures of the Community in the fight against illegal immigration and will continue to reject compulsory quotas for the distribution of refugees.

In the fight against illegal immigration, it is particularly important to improve the EU’s cooperation with Tunisia, from where refugees reach the community via the Mediterranean, said the politician.

Last day, the Czech Republic reintroduced temporary controls at the border with Slovakia, from where they enter the country through Hungarian territory and then continue to the countries of Western Europe.

According to the Czech authorities, the control will remain in force for another 10 days.

In addition to the issue of illegal immigration, Fiala also plans to debate security at length during the Grenada summit, with a focus, he indicated, on the energy sector.

I will discuss with my colleagues the need to provide citizens with affordable energy and strengthen the role of nuclear energy in the EU.

For the Czech Republic, generating electricity from nuclear energy as well as other renewable sources is an absolutely fundamental issue that is necessary to avoid imports, the politician said.

He also stressed the need to effectively connect the European energy network.

The Prime Minister noted that the Czech Republic supports the process of expanding the Community bloc by joining the Organization of Candidate Countries.

On the sidelines of the Grenada summit, Fiala is planning a meeting with the heads of government of Great Britain and Poland.
