He stayed in India in the 1950s and 1960s, an experience that inspired his bestseller
French writer Dominique Lapierre dies. He was born in Chtelaillon, La Rochelle, in 1931. In the 1950s and 1960s he was in India working as a reporter for the Paris Match newspaper, an experience that later inspired the bestseller The City of Joy (1985), published in Italy by Mondadori. In 1982, with the support of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, he and his wife founded the Action pour les enfants des lpreux de Calcutta association, to which he donated half his royalties, in favor of schools and centers for the fight against leprosy and tuberculosis.
