In addition to the police, the Los Angeles County coroner also confirmed on its website that the case related to Perry's death is considered “closed.”

The Friends star died at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. Perry was found drowned in the hot tub at his home, hours after playing a game of pickleball.

In this way, the investigators sealed the fate of the case. Now, if the actor's family wants to look for other reasons related to Perry's medical treatment, they will have to file a lawsuit themselves.

How Matthew Perry died

According to the autopsy data, Matthew Perry died as a result of acute effects of ketamine. His medical conditions, such as coronary heart disease, and the effects of the buprenorphine he was taking to relieve opioid use, combined to make it all end in a deadly combination.

The official study found that Perry was “clean” for 19 months and that he received special ketamine infusion therapy to treat his depression, which occurred a week and a half before his death. The drug's residence time in the body is short-term, about 4 hours, so this treatment would not have been the reason for his use on the day of his death.

He had also been taking tamoxifen for weight loss, anti-diabetic drugs and high doses of nicotine as he was using the patches to try to quit smoking.

A few months after Perry's death, Page Six and TMZ published a portion of the actor's forensic report, which provided more details about the drugs and paraphernalia found on the day of the tragedy.

“In the attendant's bedroom were several open, empty and half-full medication bottles prescribed to the decedent, as well as over-the-counter medications, vitamins, digestive aids and plates containing various pills, tablets, loose capsules, candy and mints,” the report said.
