The report mentioned two victims so far, but the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed a third death early Thursday afternoon.

Unfortunately, a 4-year-old girl died as a result of the impact, said Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu, information officer for the SQ.

Three injured

The mother and two surviving children, one of whom is in critical condition, were transported to the Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus in Quebec.

Route 112 was closed until 3 a.m. Wednesday night to allow investigators to determine the cause of the accident.

Witnesses are questioned by the investigators and the two vehicles undergo a mechanical assessment. The SQ can confirm for the time being that neither the weather conditions nor the condition of the road or the condition of the road played a role.

That the van suddenly changes lanes, is it falling asleep, a bad maneuver or even a voluntary gesture? Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the incident, Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu said.

Route 112 was temporarily closed again Thursday afternoon so investigators could reconstruct the accident. For this occasion, the SQ used a drone in particular.
