The Depardieu lookalike distances himself and decides to quit

A 48-year-old Belgian man who is a perfect double of French actor Gerard Depardieu, who is accused of sexual assault by several women, has decided to distance himself.

Frédéric Masquestiaux, aka “Fredo Depardieu,” sees himself as collateral damage of this storm that left the French actor in distress, as the Belgian media “La Derniere Heure” reported.

The forty-year-old from Namur therefore decided to stop being Depardieu's official double and change his name to Fredo Acteur in order to distance himself from his friend after the insults on social networks.

Depardieu's Belgian double admits this in no way changes his friendship with the French actor and admits he is not one to judge him after Complément d'investigation magazine published earlier this month.

“After the numerous controversies surrounding my friend Gérard Depardieu and given the fact that some smart people associate me with it, I have decided not to do his double anymore,” the man, now called Fredo Acteur, reacted on Facebook.

“This in no way changes the friendship that I have with Gérard and I am not one to judge him,” he said, adding: “I stop being a double but I continue to film.” […] under a different nickname.

“We know very well that you have nothing to do with Depardieu's stories. The resemblance is mainly physical, but you are a more beautiful and humble person than him,” stated an Internet user in support of Fredo Acteur.
