The Devil Wears Prada: Actress Defends Sequel Makes No Sense Anymore

The film The Devil Wears Prada (2006), a critical and popular success, managed to escape the sequel fever that plagues Hollywood. But after Top Gun: Maverick took over the universe of Big Aces (1986) 36 years later, the opportunity to explore new adventures for Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) gained traction. But Anne Hathaway, star of the first feature film, finds it difficult for the magic to repeat itself now.

“I don’t know if it’s possible to exist [uma sequência]. I think the first film lived in a different time. Now everything is so digital! This film was about the production of something physical [uma edição da revista Runway]and now everything is very different,” said Anne during an appearance on the show The View this Tuesday (1.).

However, the actress admitted that she would love to return to the universe of The Devil Wears Prada. “It’s tempting to think about Andy [Anne] and Emily [Emily Blunt] I have to pick up Miranda’s coffee but she’s somewhere in Europe and they stop halfway in Italy to pick up Nigel [Stanley Tucci] in a restaurant. It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Anne pointed out that there is a way to turn The Devil Wears Prada into a franchise. “They could rerelease the film [em um reboot]hire new actors and remake it,” she bet, feeding a mania in the film industry to only take advantage of past successes and create new versions without much novelty.

In a good mood, the Andy Sachs interpreter also spoke about her meeting with Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue magazine and as the real Miranda Priestly during this year’s New York Fashion Week. When asked by The View hosts if the two had discussed the film, Anne said no. “We’re just talking about tennis,” he played down.

She praised the journalist for her sense of humor on other occasions as The Devil Wears Prada doesn’t paint a particularly positive picture of her. “I have to say I was very impressed that she attended a benefit screening of the film wearing Prada. I think she has a good sense of humor.”
