The game’s first home run was hit by Gabriel Moreno, who became the youngest catcher with four majors in a single edition of the fall tournament. Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s single scored the game-winner. Singles by Evan Longoria and Corbin Carroll in the seventh inning and Ketel Marte in the eighth inning ultimately ended the Texas club’s hopes of a comeback.

The Rangers’ only response came from Mitch Garver with his third long ball of the fall tournament.

Additionally, Marte scored in his 18th consecutive game, an MLB record.

The D-Backs’ starting pitcher, Merrill Kelly, was simply relentless, limiting the Rangers’ offense to just three hits. He also struck out nine players. Andrew Saalfrank and then Luis Frias took his place on the mound to end the game.

With this in mind, the Texas team tried to change the rhythm of the game by using five different pitchers – to no avail. Kelly’s opponent, Jordan Montgomery, had a disastrous night as his opponents were able to get the ball to safety nine times in six innings played.

Adolis Garcia, who played the hero on Friday night, was suspended in three at-bats. On the contrary: Tommy Pham continued his momentum from the first game and showed his hitting skills with four hits. He also crossed the plate twice.

The duel now moves to Arizona, where the two teams will face off again on Monday at Chase Field.
