The Brutal Pact: The Murder of Daniella Perez series commemorates the crime that rocked the country 30 years ago. Gloria Perez’s daughter was found murdered in a bush in Rio de Janeiro after numerous beatings by Guilherme de Pádua and his thenwife Paula Thomaz. The documentary also shows the moment the body was found in scenes that shock viewers.
In an interview with Band.com.br, production managers Tatiana Issa and Guto Barra explained why they used the images. “First we asked ourselves whether we should show the shocking photos of the crime. But Gloria always felt it was important to show them accurately so that people can see and remember the barbaric and gruesome brutality of this crime and what they did to their daughter,” explained Tatiana.

“The research was carried out with great care, studied a lot, always based on the case file. We looked at all the documents, reports, all the reporting at the time and Gloria’s personnel files,” the director added.
Tatiana also pointed out that the images “avoid versions planted by criminals and brought to trial by the defense.” “What always shocked Gloria and her family was the constant use of photos from the soap opera featuring the characters Bira and Yasmim, leading to mendacious and sexist versions that continued for so many years.”
In interviews he gave at the time, Guilherme de Pádua implied that Daniella Perez was in love with him and wanted a romance, but he would have denied it as the two were married. Paula Thomaz discovered the “harassment” and wanted to talk to the actress about it out of jealousy, but the two quarreled and everything came unexpectedly.
“It is imperative that the series manages to settle this once and for all [o romance entre vítima e assassino] never happened. This narrative is part of an always sexist bias, attempting to blame the victim, reversing facts in favor of criminals, perpetuating untruths, often conveniently to sell magazines and newspapers. That must have an end. The series is based on the case files, the verdicts of both and the truth of the crime,” concluded Tatiana.
