Police have identified remains found in a garbage bag on a Toronto sidewalk this week as those of a missing woman.

In a police report Wednesday, Toronto Police confirmed the remains were that of Tien Ly, 46, the former owner of Beaute D’Amour nail salon on Yonge Street.

A salon employee, identified only as Francis, recognized the pattern on Ly’s nails in a picture released by authorities on Tuesday.

Police also released images of Ly’s red Armani Exchange long-sleeved shirt she was wearing. Authorities are now investigating the case as a homicide.

According to Francis, Ly was last seen by clients around 5pm on Sunday and the salon was still locked with her phone on Monday morning. Cheryl Obrunt, a salon regular who visited the shop this Sunday, told Global News that she “knew right away” it was the owner when she saw the pictures of her nails.

“She’s always, always here,” Obrunt said, adding that Ly seemed a little “upset” when she last saw her on Sunday. Ly was reported missing on Tuesday.

Police were notified around 1:30 p.m. Monday that Ly’s then-unidentified, dismembered body had been found by an individual near Eastern Avenue and Berkshire Avenue. Authorities believed that the person responsible for the murder used a collapsing shopping cart to transport the remains.

Officer Alex Li said police believe Ly lived with her son, Dallas Ly, 20, in a condo near Carlaw Avenue and Dundas Avenue East; However, they could not contact him.

According to Li, officers are now looking for Dallas Ly and are “concerned” for his well-being “due to what they found at the residence.” Authorities have not identified the 20-year-old as a person of interest or a suspect but have asked that he be contacted by Toronto Police immediately.

Speaking to CTV News, a salon worker said he tried to call Dallas Ly to ask about his mother after finding her cellphone in the salon but couldn’t reach him.

Those who may have information should contact the Toronto Police Department at 416-808-7400 or send an anonymous tip to 416-222-TIPS (8477) or to www.222tips.com.
