The parents of a baby just a few months old had decided to get married at the Azovstal Steelworks, which had been under Russian siege for weeks. A way to strengthen one’s bond in the ruins of war and try to glean at least a few moments of happiness. for all but a story with a happy ending, that of Vitaly and Alla Taranov. As announced on Telegram Sunday by the Municipality of Mariupol on the occasion of International Family Day, both actually perished in the very structure where they swore eternal love: Vitaly in combat on Friday April 15, Alla during a bombing raid on Sunday , 8th of May. Her baby, whose name has not been released, was therefore orphaned.

Two heroes died

Two heroes died – the deputy commander of the Azov battalion Sviatoslav Palamar wrote about the incident. They were in the battalion almost from the start. They had worked in the kitchen, then they joined. Alla was an employee, Vitaly one of the financial managers. However, before the outbreak of war, Alla worked as a hairdresser and manicurist and wanted everything around her to be beautiful. Vitaly cared more and more about others than himself and sang very well. In the soldier’s words, first of all, a great bitterness: a whole family was lost – he added – and there was nothing I could do … another family drama caused by the conflict in Ukraine just a few days after that of another couple , who got married in the Azovstal basement: the couple of Valeria Karpilenko and her Andriy, an officer of the border guard, who fell victim to an enemy attack just three days after the ceremony.

The evacuation is in progress

According to Ukrainian authorities, more than 25,000 people have lost their lives, mostly civilians, since the conflict began in Mariupol alone. To avoid further bloodshed, negotiations are ongoing to evacuate the steel mill, but despite Turkish mediation, which has offered to transport the wounded on board a ship, the parties have yet to reach an agreement. Specifically, the Russians estimate there are around 200 civilians at the facility, while other sources put the number at 500. However, as Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk told the Kurier, the seriously wounded soldiers from Kyiv would total 38. We Very difficult and delicate negotiations continue to save our people from Mariupol, from Azovstal – Zelensky reported in the last few hours -. We take care of it every day. The main thing is that the agreements are kept.
