Although their home village of Chapais, near Chibougamau, is almost 530 kilometers from Quebec City, the duo 2Frères performed as if they were at home to celebrate the 415the Anniversary of the Old Capital.
It was supposed to be almost 2,000 people who made their way to Place Jean-Béliveau, to the scent of homemade hamburgers and sweet donuts, to witness the conclusion of celebrations marking the 415th anniversary of the city of Quebec.
Brothers Érik and Sonny Caouette didn’t disappoint with an approximately two-hour performance, during which they also interpreted hits from their collection. LP, one of the duo’s first radio hits, was sung by many, and even the children who had climbed to the games at the nearby park stopped for a moment to watch.
Quebec or Montreal?
Erik, the eldest of the Caouette duo, declined to comment on which city he prefers in the struggle for Highway 20; Nevertheless, he admits that he has visited Mayor Marchand’s city several times.
“When we were young, we came to Quebec a lot more often than we did Montreal,” notes the Chapais native. “Since our first tour, it’s always been a place we’ve enjoyed playing.”
The singer particularly remembers the group performing when Le Pigeonnier de Québec last hosted the Festival d’été de Québec.
“The atmosphere was really special, I remember it like it was last night,” he says.
