The three floors of the Eiffel Tower were evacuated early Saturday afternoon after police deminers arrived following an alarm, the monument’s operating company (Sète) told AFP, confirming information from BFMTV.
“The police are on site, demining is on site,” said a spokeswoman for Sète, adding: “It is a common practice in such a situation, but it rarely happens.”
The evacuation, which began around noon (Paris time), will affect the three floors of the monument, including the tower restaurant, as well as the forecourt, this spokesman added.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., all visitors had been evacuated.
